Fifty feet downhill from the Overlook stair. Low ceilings, a long bench along the fog-facing wall that regulars leave empty, and a bell over the bar that is rung only for the second round. Wardens come off the line and come here; some nights they take the rooms upstairs rather than walk back to barracks. The house pours wine and mead from The Sorcerer of the Spirits.

The Errante Sequence

The oldest surviving series in the building is a run of di Errante household instruments, notarized across a span of years and bound in order. Apprentices are examined on it, because a clean sequence is how you learn to read a broken one.

It is not clean. Between two entries roughly forty years apart there is a gap where a number should be — not a lost page, not a damaged one. A number that was assigned and never used, or used and unbound. The Archive's own convention says an unused number is struck and initialled. This one is neither. Every Archivist for nine hundred years has noticed it, written a note about it, and moved on.
